When handling O_PATH fds it's safe to use the parent of

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek b25a930f0e basic,shared: move a bunch of files to src/shared/
The goal is to move everything that requires selinux or smack
away from src/basic/. This means that src/basic/label.[ch] must move,
which implies btrfs-util.[ch], copy.[ch], and a bunch of other files
which form a cluster of internal use.

This is just moving text around, so there should be no functional difference.

test-blockdev-util is new, because path_is_encrypted() is moved to
blockdev-util.c, and so far we didn't have any tests for code there.

Lennart Poettering 319a4f4bc4 alloc-util: simplify GREEDY_REALLOC() logic by relying on malloc_usable_size()
We recently started making more use of malloc_usable_size() and rely on
it (see the string_erase() story). Given that we don't really support
sytems where malloc_usable_size() cannot be trusted beyond statistics
anyway, let's go fully in and rework GREEDY_REALLOC() on top of it:
instead of passing around and maintaining the currenly allocated size
everywhere, let's just derive it automatically from
malloc_usable_size().

I am mostly after this for the simplicity this brings. It also brings
minor efficiency improvements I guess, but things become so much nicer
to look at if we can avoid these allocation size variables everywhere.

Note that the malloc_usable_size() man page says relying on it wasn't
"good programming practice", but I think it does this for reasons that
don't apply here: the greedy realloc logic specifically doesn't rely on
the returned extra size, beyond the fact that it is equal or larger than
what was requested.

(This commit was supposed to be a quick patch btw, but apparently we use
the greedy realloc stuff quite a bit across the codebase, so this ends
up touching *a*lot* of code.)

Igor Zhbanov 4c54768c97 journald: Retry if posix_fallocate returned -1 (EINTR)
On some conditions (particularly when mobile CPUs are going to sleep),
the posix_fallocate(), which is called when a new journal file is allocated,
can return -1 (EINTR). This is counted as a fatal error. So the journald
closes both old and journals, and simply throwing away further incoming
events, because of no log files open.

Introduce posix_fallocate_loop() that restarts the function in the case
of EINTR. Also let's make code base more uniform by returning negative
values on error.

Fix assert in test-sigbus.c that incorrectly counted positive values as
success. After changing the function return values, that will actually work.

Lennart Poettering dee00c1939 fs-util,tmpfiles: fix error handling of fchmod_opath()
When 4dfaa528d4 was first commited its callers relied on `errno` instead of the
return value for error reporting. Which worked fine, since internally
under all conditions base were set — even if ugly and not inline with
our coding style. Things then got broken in
f8606626ed where suddenly additional
syscalls might end up being done in the function, thus corrupting `errno`.

Lennart Poettering 6b000af4f2 tree-wide: avoid some loaded terms
https://tools.ietf.org/html/draft-knodel-terminology-02
https://lwn.net/Articles/823224/

This gets rid of most but not occasions of these loaded terms:

1. scsi_id and friends are something that is supposed to be removed from
   our tree (see #7594)

2. The test suite defines an API used by the ubuntu CI. We can remove
this too later, but this needs to be done in sync with the ubuntu CI.

3. In some cases the terms are part of APIs we call or where we expose
concepts the kernel names the way it names them. (In particular all
remaining uses of the word "slave" in our codebase are like this,
it's used by the POSIX PTY layer, by the network subsystem, the mount
API and the block device subsystem). Getting rid of the term in these
contexts would mean doing some major fixes of the kernel ABI first.

Regarding the replacements: when whitelist/blacklist is used as noun we
replace with with allow list/deny list, and when used as verb with
allow-list/deny-list.

Lennart Poettering f8606626ed tmpfiles: if we get ENOENT when opening /proc/self/fd/, check if /proc is mounted
let's return ENOSYS in that case, to make things a bit less confusng.

Previously we'd just propagate ENOENT, which people might mistake as
applying to the object being modified rather than /proc/ just not being
there.

Let's return ENOSYS instead, i.e. an error clearly indicating that some
kernel API is not available. This hopefully should put people on a
better track.

Note that we only do the procfs check in the error path, which hopefully
means it's the less likely path.

We probably can add similar bits to more suitable codepaths dealing with
/proc/self/fd, but for now, let's pick to the ones noticed in #14745.

Lennart Poettering c2595d3b02 fs-util: when calling chase_symlinks() with root path, leave root part unresolved
Previously there was a weird asymmetry: initially we'd resolve the
specified prefix path when chasing symlinks together with the actual
path we were supposed to cover, except when we hit an absolute symlink
where we'd use the root as it was. Let's unify handling here: the prefix
path is never resolved, and always left as it is.

This in particular fixes issues with symlinks in the prefix path, as
that confused the check that made sure we never left the root directory.
