Now that the necessary functions from log.h have been moved to macro.h,
we can stop including log.h in macro.h. This requires modifying source
files all over the tree to include log.h instead.
C23 changed char8_t from char to unsigned char, hence assigning a u8 literal
to const char* emits pointer sign warning, e.g.
========
../src/shared/qrcode-util.c: In function ‘print_border’:
../src/shared/qrcode-util.c:16:34: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 1 of ‘fputs’ differ in signedness [-Wpointer-sign]
16 | #define UNICODE_FULL_BLOCK u8"█"
| ^~~~~
| |
| const unsigned char *
../src/shared/qrcode-util.c:65:39: note: in expansion of macro ‘UNICODE_FULL_BLOCK’
65 | fputs(UNICODE_FULL_BLOCK, output);
| ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
========
This introduces UTF8() macro, which define u8 literal and casts to consth char*,
then rewrites all u8 literal definitions with the macro.
With this change, we can build systemd with C23.
The transient one is generally the more relevant one, since it is
typically used to reach this host remotely, and it's what shells show
you. Hence show it first.
Expose /sys/class/dmi/id/chassis_asset_tag in varlink/dbus commonly used
by companies to track inventory such as laptops.
On desktops and other products the `chassis_asset_tag` can contain
rubbish similar to product_name/product_vendor.
Closes: #36442
Given we have the generic interface, let's hook it up everywhere.
This doesnt bother with the Reload() call usually, since that's more
involved, but hooks up the other relevant functions where applicable.
This makes
- also cache sd_device for ACPI device.
- split fallback_chassis() into small pieces,
- use sd_device to reading sysfs attributes.
No functional change, just refactoring.
Instead of the wrapper functions the color defines where used directly.
This was especially a problem for ANSI_HIGHLIGHT_YELLOW which is not
legible at all for light themes such as solarized. The 16 color palette
fallback can be set to a sane yellow or orange on that matter but it was
not used though `SYSTEMD_COLORS=16` was set.
Use the proper wrapper functions and let the right color be selected the
way other components do it already.
The values that were previously hardcoded in sd-varlink.c are now defined
in new varlink_set_info_systemd() and that function is called everywhere
where we create a server.
We used both, in fact "Devicetree" was more common. But we have a general rule
that we capitalize all words in names and also we have a DeviceTree=
configuration setting, which we cannot change. If we use two different
spelllings, this will make it harder for people to use the correct one in
config files. So use the "DeviceTree" spelling everywhere.
We often used a pattern like if (!FLAGS_SET(flags, SD_JSON_FORMAT_OFF)),
which is rather verbose and also contains a double negative, which we try
to avoid. Add a little helper to avoid an explicit bit check.
This change clarifies an aditional thing: in some cases we treated
SD_JSON_FORMAT_OFF as a flag (flags & SD_JSON_FORMAT_OFF), while in other cases
we treated it as an independent enum value (flags == SD_JSON_FORMAT_OFF).
In the first form, flags like SD_JSON_FORMAT_SSE do _not_ turn the json
output on, while in the second form they do. Let's use the first form
everywhere.
No functional change intended.
Initially I wasn't sure if this helper should be made public or just internal,
but it seems such a common pattern that if we expose the flags, we might just
as well expose it too, to make life easier for any consumers.
Given that we have the LabelOps abstraction these days, we can teach
write_string_file() to use it, which means we can get rid of
fileio-label.[ch] as a separate concept.
(The only reason that fileio-label.[ch] exists independently of
fileio.[ch] was that the former linekd to libselinux potentially, and
thus had to be in src/shared/ while the other always was in src/basic/.
But the LabelOps vtable provides us with a nice work-around)
We typically want to deal in usec_t, hence let's change the prototype
accordingly, and do proper range checks. Also, make sure are not
confused by negative times.
Do something similar for mktime_or_timegm().
This is a more comprehensive alternative to #34065

It's time. sd-json was already done earlier in this cycle, let's now
make sd-varlink public too.
This is mostly just a search/replace job of epical proportions.
I left some functions internal (mostly IDL handling), and I turned some
static inline calls into regular calls.
nscd is known to be racy [1] and it was already deprecated and later dropped in
Fedora a while back [1,2]. We don't need to support obsolete stuff in systemd,
and the cache in systemd-resolved provides a better solution anyway.
We announced the plan to drop nscd in d44934f378.

The option is kept as a stub without any effect to make the transition easier.
If people want they should be able to turn on this flag, to allow
interactive auth. Let's make sure this actually works. i.e. add it to
the introspection data and don't refuse the parameter in Describe().
(note the varlink handling already does parameter validation through
varlink_dispatch(), hence we can just drop any further validation)
The logic of the Describe() call was supposed to be: if we can acquire
the PK priv to get the product UUID then let's return the product UUID,
and if we cannot then return the data without it.
This didn't work however, since the polkit varlink glue would
immediately propagate the error it acquired from polkit its own client.
Let's turn this off, optionally, so that hostnamed can handle this
nicely.
This is preparation for making our Varlink API a public API. Since our
Varlink API is built on top of our JSON API we need to make that public
first (it's a nice API, but JSON APIs there are already enough, this is
purely about the Varlink angle).
I made most of the json.h APIs public, and just placed them in
sd-json.h. Sometimes I wasn't so sure however, since the underlying data
structures would have to be made public too. If in doubt I didn#t risk
it, and moved the relevant API to src/libsystemd/sd-json/json-util.h
instead (without any sd_* symbol prefixes).
This is mostly a giant search/replace patch.
This adds for both the D-Bus and the Varlink flavours of our polkit
client api a flags parameter. And then folds the "bool interactive" flag
that the D-Bus version so far had, into a flag, and also adds support
for it in the Varlink API.
Since this means the Varlink API gained another parameter, let's do what
we already did for the D-Bus API and add a _full() version of the API
that has the flags and the good_uid parameter, and one without both.
Old versions of hostnamed used to propagate ENODEV/ENOENT as-is. Bad
idea. This was fixed in 171ddae1a1, but
let's handle this gracefully in hostnamectl.
For the very similar case of the product UUID we have its own error
BUS_ERROR_NO_PRODUCT_UUID if we have no UUID. Let's mirror this for the
hardware serial, and expose the same, to keep things nicely symmteric.
