Right now, if a user tries to pass VMADDR_CID_ANY to systemd-ssh-proxy,
an assert is triggered:
$ ssh vsock%4294967295
Assertion 'cid != VMADDR_CID_ANY' failed at src/ssh-generator/ssh-proxy.c:21, function process_vsock_cid(). Aborting.
mm_receive_fd: recvmsg: expected received 1 got 0
proxy dialer did not pass back a connection
This is becauase the value returned from vsock_parse_cid is not checked
before being passed to process_vsock_string. Add a check to prevent
that.
Symlinks to files inside sysconfdir are now only installed if
ìnstall_sysconfdir=true (which is the default).
If sshconfdir,sshdconfdir,shellprofiledir are not inside sysconfdir and
install_sysconfidr=false, these symlinks are still installed to the
configured directory.
There's no reason to refuse copying out capsule@abc.service even if
capsule@.service already exists on the host, so let's optionally not
search for templates if we can't find an instance when looking up
units and use it in portabled.
unit_file_exists() currently does not follow symlinks, as it is
mainly used to test whether the unit (of any install state)
has been seen under search dirs. However, in ssh-generator
we should search for and honor whatever the distro ships,
which might be an alias or linked externally.
The unix-domain socket to AF_VSOCK multiplexers in Firecracker and
vhost-device-vsock sends OK PORT response to the client, resulting
ssh clients to abort the connection with the additional response. This
patch addresses this issue by waiting and expecting the possible OK PORT
response from the multiplexer, if any, and then handover the socket fd
to the ssh client. It only checks if the response begins with OK and
consume the response till the first \n, for simplicity.

In all cases, everything that we list in 'extract', we also list in
'sources'. We can simplify things by automatically appending the first
list to the second.
In the listings, move 'extract' key right below 'sources', since now
they are both "sources", just with slightly different meanings.
In logs in the Fedora OpenQA CI:
Nov 17 22:20:06 fedora systemd-ssh-generator[4117]: Failed to query local AF_VSOCK CID: Cannot assign requested address
Nov 17 22:20:06 fedora (generato[4088]: /usr/lib/systemd/system-generators/systemd-ssh-generator failed with exit status 1.
Nov 17 22:20:06 fedora systemd[1]: sshd-vsock.socket: Unit configuration changed while unit was running, and no socket file descriptors are open. Unit not functional until restarted.
AF_VSOCK is not configured there and systemd-ssh-generator should just exit
quietly. vsock_get_local_cid() already does some logging at debug level, so we
don't need to.
There is also a second bug, we report modifications to the unit have just
created. I think we have an issue open for this somewhere, but cannot find it.
Let's check both the per user machined and the system machined instead
of only the system machined. We give preference to the per user machined
and fall back to the system machined.
I find myself trying to log into a fresh ParticleOS VM started via
systemd-vmspawn all the time, but I don't know its CID. Let's show it on
the getty screen, to make it immediately visible.
[1] says:
> Since 0.60.0 the name argument is optional and defaults to the basename of
> the first output
We specify >= 0.62 as the supported version, so drop the duplicate name in all cases
where it is the same as outputs[0], i.e. almost all cases.

This commit cleans up the includes for all the small tools across
the tree.
A few cases of returning EXIT_SUCCESS are replaced with returning
0 to avoid including <stdlib.h>.
Split out of #37344.
ssh-generator and ssh-proxy are great features, it is very handy to be
able to do:
ssh vsock/1
But, because of the '/' used as a separator, scp and rsync don't
interpret 'vsock/<CID>' as a hostname, e.g.
$ scp /etc/machine-id vsock/2222:.
cp: cannot create regular file 'vsock/2222:.': No such file or directory
$ rsync /etc/machine-id vsock/2222:.
rsync: [Receiver] change_dir#3 "(...)/vsock" failed: No such file or directory (2)
rsync error: errors selecting input/output files, dirs (code 3) at main.c(829) [Receiver=3.4.1]
An alternative is to use ',' as separator, e.g.
$ scp /etc/machine-id vsock,2222:.
This is what is being suggested here. The names with '/' are kept not to
break anything here.
Others are possible: '%', '=', '#', '@', ':', etc. As mentioned in
commit 0abd510f7f ("ssh-proxy: add ssh ProxyCommand tool that can
connect to AF_UNIX + AF_VSOCK sockets"), it is better to avoid ':' as it
is already taken by SSH itself when doing sftp, and "@" is already taken
for separating the user name. '#' will cause some issues with some
shells like ZSH when quotes are not used.
Now our baseline of meson is 0.62, hence install_symlink() can be used.
Note, install_symlink() implies install_emptydir() for specified
install_dir. Hence, this also drops several unnecessary
install_emptydir() calls.
Note, the function currently does not support 'relative' and 'force' flags,
so several 'ln -frsT' inline calls cannot be replaced.
https://github.com/systemd/systemd/pull/32941
added support for firecracker/cloud-hypervisor and
their unix-domain socket to AF_VSOCK multiplex.
but I forgot to add the pattern in the ssh config drop-in.
fix it now!
It's time. sd-json was already done earlier in this cycle, let's now
make sd-varlink public too.
This is mostly just a search/replace job of epical proportions.
I left some functions internal (mostly IDL handling), and I turned some
static inline calls into regular calls.
Also, make sure the NUL byte iovec becomes an exported constant too.
This is better than the previous situation where this was a macro
resolving to a compount expression, since the lifetime of the expression
is limited to its invoking scope. By turning this into a proper variable
the lifetime becomes unbounded, which makes it easier to use in various
scenarios, such as "if" blocks.
