TEST-26-SYSTEMCTL is racy as we call systemctl is-active immediately
after systemctl kill. Let's implement --wait for systemctl kill and
use it in TEST-26-SYSTEMCTL to avoid the race.
Subscribe() enables full signal delivery on API bus. But aside from
that, if a unit/job is explicitly Ref()'d, manager also emits the
signal. See bus_foreach_bus() for details.
bus-wait-for-units refs every unit to wait for, so there's no need
to Subscribe() on top of that. In verb_clean_or_freeze() Subscribe()
is not called either.
I think we should put more emphasis on the invocation ID as a handle for
a specific runtime cycle of a unit. Let's start with actually showing it
to users.
See: #16035
Consider the following case: a user sets up a minimum rootfs for
file system maintenance work in /run/nextroot/ dir directly. When
they're done, they expect 'systemctl reboot' to perform a full reboot.
But they keep soft-rebooting back to the tmpfs root, until they
find out about $SYSTEMCTL_SKIP_AUTO_SOFT_REBOOT.
So currently, when /run/nextroot/ is a normal dir, pid1 automatically
turns it into a bind mount to soft-reboot into. This is good, but when
combined with automatic soft-reboot it has an arguably unexpected
behavior, since /run/nextroot/ can never go away in such a case.
OTOH, if /run/nextroot/ is a mountpoint in the first place, the mount
is *moved* so a second reboot would not trigger auto soft-reboot.
Let's just make things more friendly to users, and do auto soft-reboot
only if /run/nextroot/ is also a mountpoint.
gcrypt is used only for journal sealing operations in libsystemd, so it
can be made into a dlopen dependency that is used only on demand. This
allows to reduce the footprint of libsystemd in the most common cases.
Keep systemd-pull and systemd-resolved with normal linking, as they are
executables, and usually built with OpenSSL support anyway.
Dynamically load liblz4, libzstd and liblzma with dlopen().
This helps to reduce the size of the initrd image when these libraries
are not really needed.
let's make userspace verity signature checking optional. This adds a
dissection flag to enable the logic and patches through all our users to
enable it by default, thus effectively not changing anything from the
status quo ante. However, know we have a knob to turn this off in
certain scenarios.

This allows us to pin the process locally when GetUnitByPIDFD
is not available, just like what we have been doing for
'systemctl whoami'. Also, fix looking up remote pid.
We can't use pidfd for those.
Skip using pidfds if we get a permission denied error.
This can happen with an old policy and a new kernel that uses the
new pidfs filesystem to back pidfds, instead of anonymous inodes,
as the existing policy denies access.
This is already the case for most uses of pidfd_open, like pidref,
but not on these two. Fix them.
This functionality relied on telinit being available in a different path
then the compat symlink shipped by systemd itself. This is no longer the
case for any known distro, so remove that code.

With the `--image` option, the `running_in_chroot` check is not enough. E.g.:
```
> build/systemctl --image /tmp/20240108-openSUSE.raw is-system-running
running
```
Since libfuzzer feeds a single fuzzing process with multiple inputs, we
might carry over arg_transport from a previous invocation, tripping over
the assert in acquire_bus():

These are unused or used in the same order. So, this patch does not
change any behavior, just for naming consistency with the function
prototype.
Closes#30570.
While at it, rephrase the output a bit. Before this commit, if
the pid doesn't exist, we output something hard to interpret -
"Failed to get unit for ourselves".
This is a fancy wrapper around "cat <<EOF", but:
- the user doesn't need to figure out the file name,
- parent directories are created automatically,
- daemon-reload is implied,
so it's a convenient way to create units or drop-ins.
Closes https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/21862.
Otherwise we get a not very nice message when trying to display a
non-existent man page:
~# systemctl cat test.service
[Unit]
Description=Hello
[Service]
ExecStart=true
~# systemctl help test.service
