dns_question_cname_redirect() returns no replacement when a question
already matches a CNAME target or a DNAME does not apply. If only one of
the UTF-8 and IDNA questions redirects, dns_query_cname_redirect() then
installs NULL for the unchanged side.
Keep a reference to the original question on whichever side does not
redirect, and update the existing asymmetric DNAME test to verify it.

## Problem
A `BrowseServices` subscription with `"ifindex":0` (browse all
interfaces) receives a continuous flap of `added`/`removed` events for a
service that is still present — within a second, and with no goodbye
packet involved.
## Root cause
For `ifindex==0`, `mdns_browser_revisit_cache()` looked up each mDNS
scope's cache separately and called `mdns_manage_services_answer()`
**once per scope**. That function derives `removed` events by diffing
the browser's *global* discovered-service list (all interfaces, filtered
only by owner family) against the single answer it's handed. So with ≥2
mDNS-relevant interfaces of the same family, a service present on
interface A isn't in interface B's answer and is spuriously removed
while B is reconciled, then re-added on the next revisit tick.
## Fix
Accumulate the pruned cache answers from every matching mDNS scope into
one combined `DnsAnswer` and reconcile **once**, so removals diff the
global list against the union across interfaces. Items are merged with
`dns_answer_add_full()` (not `dns_answer_extend()`, which defaults each
item's `until` to `USEC_INFINITY` and would skew the RFC 6762 §5.2
TTL-maintenance schedule). The single-interface (`ifindex>0`) path is
unchanged.
## Test
`TEST-89-RESOLVED-MDNS.sh` gains `testcase_browse_ifindex_zero_no_flap`:
it adds a service-less dummy mDNS link to guarantee ≥2 same-family
scopes (the flap precondition), browses `ifindex=0`, waits for
discovery, then asserts **zero** `removed` events while every publisher
stays up. The subscription uses `varlinkctl --timeout=infinity`, since
it sits idle after discovery and the default 45s idle timeout would
sever it (and the assertion) mid-observation.
## Testing status
Builds clean; `shellcheck -x` clean. First CI round: `TEST-89`
(including this testcase) passed on all mkosi platforms; the failing
jobs all traced to unrelated flakes/infra.
dns_answer_remove_by_rr() mutats the backing OrderedSet even when the answer
has multiple references. Callers such as trust-anchor revocation could thus
change snapshots held elsewhere in the resolver.
Clone a shared answer before removal.

Follow-up for 8458b7fb91
When a BrowseServices subscription uses ifindex=0 ("all interfaces"),
mdns_browser_revisit_cache() looked up each mDNS scope's cache separately
and called mdns_manage_services_answer() once per scope. That function
derives "removed" events by diffing the browser's *global* service list
(all interfaces, filtered only by owner family) against the single answer
it is handed. So with two or more mDNS-relevant interfaces of the same
family, a service present on interface A is not contained in interface B's
answer and is therefore spuriously removed (emitting "removed") while B is
reconciled, then re-added (emitting "added") on the next revisit tick.
The result is a continuous added/removed/added/removed flap, within a
second, for a service that is still present and without any goodbye packet
involved -- as reported for the mDNS/DNS-SD browsing API.
Fix it by accumulating the pruned cache answers from every matching mDNS
scope into a single combined answer and reconciling exactly once, so the
removed pass diffs the global service list against the union across all
interfaces. Each scope's cache is still pruned before lookup, so genuinely
expired records still drop out of the union and real removals still fire.
The items are merged with dns_answer_add_full() rather than
dns_answer_extend(), so each item's ifindex, flags, rrsig and cache-expiry
"until" are preserved. dns_answer_extend()/dns_answer_merge() are not
expiry-aware and do not carry the source items' "until" through: it
defaults to USEC_INFINITY (the "no expiry" sentinel), which would skew the
RFC 6762 section 5.2 TTL maintenance schedule that
mdns_manage_services_answer() derives from item->until.
The single-interface (ifindex>0) path is unchanged.
Previously, when a library was dynamically loaded via a helper function
inside libsystemd-shared.so, the resulting dlopen ELF note was not
propagated to the invoking executable's ELF metadata.
This commit explicitly annotates each executable with the relevant
dlopen ELF notes for any optional dependencies it might potentially
load. This ensures that package managers and build systems can properly
discover runtime dependencies that are triggered indirectly.
This also switches all these notes to be defined via SD_ELF_NOTE_DLOPEN_ANCHORED().
Consequently, any notes added within unreachable or unused functions will be
automatically garbage-collected by the linker (--gc-sections) instead of
bloating the final binary.
E.g. unused p11-kit library dependency is now dropped from
systemd-repart.standalone binary.

This commit fixes them and some similar issues with "and and" etc.
Invalidate cached DNS RR wire format when
`dns_resource_record_clamp_ttl()` updates `rr->ttl` in place.
Validate each EFI `Boot####` device-path node length before reading
subtype-specific fields.
dns_resource_record_clamp_ttl() may patch the TTL in place when the
record has a single reference. dnssec_fix_rrset_ttl() also updates TTLs
after canonical wire-format data may have been cached.
If a record already has cached wire-format data, that cache still
contains the old TTL and dns_resource_record_to_wire_format() will keep
reusing it.
Add a small helper to clear the cached wire-format state, and use it
whenever the TTL changes. This makes subsequent serialization match the
record fields.

dnstls_stream_connect_tls() reads the manager-wide dns_over_tls_mode
field directly, so when the global mode was 'no' or 'opportunistic' but
a link was configured with strict DNSOverTLS=yes, the DoT connection
was established without SSL_VERIFY_PEER or hostname/IP checks.
Use dns_server_get_dns_over_tls_mode() which honours the per-link
override.
We have two concepts: a list of files that should be extracted from an
intermediate build artifact to be used in a later build artifact, and for a
given artifact, a list "donors". The first list was called "extract", because
it is passed to the .extract_objects() meson function, and the second was
called "objects", because that is the meson parameter to specify pre-built
objects files (6350d2dbd9). But this naming is
confusing: we don't care about the 'extract' step, this is something internal
to the build machinery. And 'objects' is a very generic term.
Let's use 'export' for the stuff that is "exported" for other binaries to use,
and 'import' to say where to import from. Those terms are symmetrical and the
association between them should be intuitive. (If you think the terms are
actually assymetrical, there are precedents for confusing the import with the
import sources. E.g. in modern English, turkeys are called so because they were
imported from the Americas and guineafowls were imported from Africa via
Türkiye and all that foreign stuff is alike.)
mdns_maintenance_query() takes a ref on the browser's varlink link but
never installs itself as that link's userdata. dns_query_free() then
unconditionally runs sd_varlink_set_userdata(varlink_request, NULL),
so freeing any maintenance query wipes the browse query's registration
on the shared sb->link slot, disabling the abort paths in
vl_on_disconnect() and dns_service_browser_free(). The maintenance
query also never takes a reference on the DnsServiceBrowser, so a client
disconnect could free the browser while a maintenance query was still
in flight, leaving the per-service schedule_event timer and the raw
service->service_browser back-pointer dangling (use-after-free on the
next timer tick or query completion).
Take a service_browser_request reference instead, matching the browse
query path. dns_query_free() already drops it. The browser now outlives
its in-flight maintenance queries.

OpenSSL 3.0 deprecated low-level Elliptic Curve (EC) key manipulation
functions (EC_KEY, EC_POINT, EC_GROUP) and direct signature verification
functions like ECDSA_do_verify().
This commit modernizes dnssec_ecdsa_verify_raw() by transitioning to the
provider-aware EVP API:
* Uses OSSL_PARAM arrays and EVP_PKEY_fromdata() to construct the EC
public key directly from the raw octet string and curve name, avoiding
deprecated EC_POINT parsing.
* Converts the raw R and S signature components into a DER-encoded ASN.1
signature using i2d_ECDSA_SIG(), as required by the modern EVP API.
* Uses EVP_PKEY_verify() for the actual signature validation.
Additionally, this drops an outdated TODO comment waiting for raw ECDSA
support in the EVP API, as well as the deprecated warning suppression
macros and fallback code blocks. Unit tests for ECDSA are now run
unconditionally.
OpenSSL 3.0 deprecated low-level key manipulation functions and direct
access to RSA structures (such as RSA_new(), RSA_set0_key(), and
RSA_size()).
This commit modernizes dnssec_rsa_verify_raw() by replacing these
deprecated functions with the provider-aware EVP API:
* Uses OSSL_PARAM_BLD and EVP_PKEY_fromdata() to construct the RSA
public key directly from the modulus and exponent BIGNUMs.
* Replaces RSA_size() with EVP_PKEY_get_size().
Consequently, the workaround macros suppressing deprecated warnings
(DISABLE_WARNING_DEPRECATED_DECLARATIONS) and the conditional fallback
blocks (#if !defined(OPENSSL_NO_DEPRECATED_3_0)) are no longer needed
and have been dropped. Unit tests are also updated to run unconditionally.
varlink_call_and_log() does not hand out a new reference for the reply
object, so the caller should not unref it. The _cleanup_(sd_json_variant_unrefp)
on reply was therefore wrong from the start.
The original TAKE_PTR(reply) was working around this incorrect cleanup
by preventing it from firing, but that left reply's refcount one too
high after sd_json_variant_ref(v) incremented the parent's count.
Fix by dropping _cleanup_(sd_json_variant_unrefp) from the reply
variable declaration entirely, as suggested by Lennart Poettering.

The new polkit will return a new detail regarding a successful

see whether the user authenticated as admin. This can be used
to grant additional privileges.
dns_stub_listener_extra_free() frees the listener while DnsQuery and
DnsStream objects still keep pointers to it. On a reload the extra
listeners are freed before dns_stream_disconnect_all() and
dns_query_free() run, and dns_query_free() then dereferences those
pointers.
bus_method_register_service() inserted the DnssdRegisteredService into
m->dnssd_registered_services before assigning service->manager and
before the sd_bus_track_new()/sd_bus_track_add_sender() calls, so if
either failed, the destructor ran with service->manager still NULL,
so its guarded hashmap_remove() was skipped and the freed service was
left in the hashmap.
Currently they are marked as required, as resolved aborts on startup if
dns-over-tls is built in, even if it is not enabled in the config.
Change initialization to be done lazily on first use, so that if the
config is not enabled, it never runs, and the libraries are never
dlopened, so they can be downgraded to recommends.
hashmap_replace() failure left t in s->manager->dns_transactions with

In order to have a single note, condition its priority based on whether
DNS-over-TLS is enabled.
Currently almost all the dlopens happen in libbasic or libshared code,
so the ELF dlopen notes all end up in libsystemd-shared. Many
distributions split this library and various binaries in separate
packages, and the library ends up with soft-dependencies, even though
many binaries are either completely useless or do not work at all with
the dlopen dependency. This also makes it impossible to know which
executable uses which dlopen dependency without inspecting the source
code.
If someone only wants to add the soft dependencies from libshared they
can just avoid parsing the executable binaries. By design the code in
libbasic/libshared still does the stamping too, at lower priorities, so
that libsystemd-shared will always list all the optional dependencies,
and if one wants to build a minimal system by default, they can just
parse libsystemd-shared dlopen notes, and ignore the individual
executables. But for many distribution the current setup is insufficient
and requires adding a ton of manual library dependencies, as many
executables become effectively broken or useless without the dlopen
dependencies installed (eg: resolved fails to start without libssl,
repart can do basically nothing without blkid, etc).
Add a new set of DLOPEN_<LIB> macros that wrap the dlopen_lib and also
pull in the ELF note voodoo, so that the callers get their ELF binaries
stamped too. Convert a bunch of callers to use the macro, and use
`required` dependencies for the callers that do not work without the
dlopen library being available.
The one caveat is that, in order to avoid duplicating the exact same
note in a binary due to multiple call sites, some `asm` voodoo is done
instead of the previous bare-C section-creating macro. The drawback of
this approach is that if `--gc-sections` is used to link the binary (as
we do), then binutils >= 2.36 is required for the `SHF_GNU_RETAIN` flag.
This effectively cuts off CentOS 9, so what I did here is adding an
override in meson to detect missing support, and drop `SHF_GNU_RETAIN`.
The build works, but on CentOS 9 there's no dlopen ELF notes anymore.
Given it's just that version, and it goes EOL next year, that seems ok
to me. The alternative is to drop the usage of `--gc-sections` on CentOS
9, or to accept duplicated notes everywhere, and both seem worse.
End result:

resolved watches networkd state changes and RTNL updates separately. RTNL is
currently processed at SD_EVENT_PRIORITY_IMPORTANT, while networkd state
changes are processed later at SD_EVENT_PRIORITY_IMPORTANT+5.
If both are pending, an RTM_NEWADDR update can make a link relevant for
LLMNR/mDNS scope allocation before resolved has consumed the corresponding
networkd state update. This can let scope recalculation use stale per-link
settings until the networkd event is processed.
Run the networkd monitor source before RTNL by using
SD_EVENT_PRIORITY_IMPORTANT-5. This lets resolved consume current link settings
before reacting to RTNL address updates in the same event loop iteration.

Switch the executable-owned call sites from the plain dlopen_<lib>()
helpers to the new DLOPEN_<LIB>() macros, so that each binary that loads
an optional library at runtime now carries its own .note.dlopen note
instead of relying solely on libsystemd-shared. Each call site passes a
priority reflecting whether it hard-depends on the library (required) or
degrades gracefully without it (recommended).

get_user_creds would use getpwnam() and then returns strings pointing
into the static buffer. This seems very iffy. Let's duplicate the
strings properly
Drop the -fundamental suffix from src/fundamental/ headers in favor of names
that match their src/basic/ or src/shared/ counterparts (e.g.
macro-fundamental.h -> macro.h, assert-fundamental.h -> assert-util.h,
cleanup-fundamental.h -> cleanup-util.h). Rename src/basic/{btrfs,label}.{c,h}
to use the -util suffix to match the existing shared/btrfs-util and
shared/label-util siblings. Rename src/shared/mkdir-label.{c,h} to mkdir.{c,h}
and src/shared/tmpfile-util-label.{c,h} to tmpfile-util.{c,h} to match the
corresponding src/basic names.
This saves us from having to come up with separate names for files that do
the same thing across tiers, and it makes it easier to move stuff between
src/fundamental, src/basic and src/shared: consumers just #include "foo.h"
and pick up whichever tier their -I path resolves to first, so call sites
don't need to be updated when an API moves between layers.
Where a higher-tier wrapper exists (e.g. src/basic/macro.h wrapping
src/fundamental/macro.h), the wrapper uses an explicit "../fundamental/foo.h"
or "../basic/foo.h" relative include for the lower-tier header. We can't use
GCC's #include_next directive for this — when the wrapper is reachable both
via same-dir-as-source lookup and via -I (e.g. -Isrc/shared) for the
directory it lives in, #include_next advances by exactly one slot in libcpp's
internal directory chain and lands on the same physical directory it was
already in, never reaching the lower-tier sibling (see make_cpp_dir() in
gcc/libcpp/files.cc:1986).
To make sure the right headers are always picked up, the include directories
are reordered so that e.g. src/shared always takes priority over src/basic and
similar for the other directories.
