The name "def.h" originates from before the rule of "no needless abbreviations"
was established. Let's rename the file to clarify that it contains a collection
of various semi-related constants.
I wanted to move saved_arg[cv] to process-util.c+h, but this causes problems:
process-util.h includes format-util.h which includes net/if.h, which conflicts
with linux/if.h. So we can't include process-util.h in some files.
But process-util.c is very long anyway, so it seems nice to create a new file.
rename_process(), invoked_as(), invoked_by_systemd(), and argv_looks_like_help()
which lived in process-util.c refer to saved_argc and saved_argv, so it seems
reasonable to move them to the new file too.
util.c is now empty, so it is removed. util.h remains.
I changed imports of util.h to initrd-util.h, or added an import of
initrd-util.h, to keep compilation working. It turns out that many files didn't
import util.h directly.
When viewing the patch, don't be confused by git rename detection logic:
a new .c file is added and two functions moved into it.
It's a bit silly to have a separate file that one short test, but this is the
last part of the test code that is misplaced, and here consistency beats
brevity.
When compiling with -D utmp=false the compilation fails with:
../../git/systemd/src/test/test-utmp.c: In function ‘test_dump_run_utmp’:
../../git/systemd/src/test/test-utmp.c:21:9: error: cleanup argument not a function
21 | _unused_ _cleanup_(utxent_cleanup) bool utmpx = false;
| ^~~~~~~~
../../git/systemd/src/test/test-utmp.c:23:17: error: implicit declaration of function ‘utxent_start’ [-Werror=implicit-function-declaration]
23 | utmpx = utxent_start();
| ^~~~~~~~~~~~
any many other errors
Add a conditional to compile test-utmp.c only if ENABLE_UTMP is true.
This performs the same semantic transformation as the Coccinelle
script 'strdupa.cocci'.
Somehow the existing semantic patch is not properly triggering on
this 'string_replace_char' test.
The test would fail when addresses were being removed in parallel. In general,
the check is only valid when the machine configuration is static, which in
general isn't true.

The logs show that there's a huge number of private addresses, probably from
some other test running in parallel.
The man page says nothing about "e". Glibc clearly accepts it without fuss, but
it is meaningless for a memory object (and probably doesn't work). This use is
not portable, so let's avoid it.
We do not provide any numerical libraries, and iszero_safe() is only
used in parsing or formatting JSON. Hence, it is not necessary for us to
request that the function provides the same result on different systems.
Fixes#25044.
Typically the _MAX and _INVALID special enum values use the full type as
prefix, even if the actual values of the enum might not. Let's follow
this rule here too.
We can just make this an enum, as long as we ensure it has enough range,
which we can do by adding -ERRNO_MAX as one possible value (at least on
GNU C). We already do that at multiple other places, so let's do this
here too.
We had an anonymous enum with values called UNIT_FILE_…, which could easily be
confused with UNIT_FILE_… from UnitFileFlags enum. This commit renames the enum
values and also the variables which refer to them.
The new function DumpPatterns() can be used to limit (drastically) the size of
the data returned by PID1. Hence the optimization of serializing data into a
file descriptor should be less relevant than having the possibility to limit
the data when communicating with the service manager remotely.
NB: when passing patterns, the dump command omits the version of the manager as
well as the features and the timestamps.
This is useful for systems which don't have any fsck.
We already skip emitting the fsck dependency when the fsck.$fstype helper
is missing, but fstab-generator doesn't necessarily know the fstype when
handling the root= parameter.
Previously, systemd-fsck was started for these mounts and then exited
immediately because it couldn't find the fsck.$fstype helper.
In most cases we refernced the concept as "initrd". Let's convert most
remaining uses of "initramfs" to "initrd" too, to stay internally
consistent.
This leaves "initramfs" only where it's relevant to explain historical
concepts or where "initramfs" is part of the API (i.e. in
/run/initramfs).
