Let's introduce these for the following two reasons:
- Using them makes sure the parameter names match between declaration
and definition (if both use the corresponding macros).
- They make sure developers can't forget the _const_ and _pure_
attributes for the declarations.
This commit also includes some include sorting fixes
Let's not leak details from src/shared and src/libsystemd into
src/basic, even though you can't actually do anything useful with
just forward declarations from src/shared.
The sd-forward.h header is put in src/libsystemd/sd-common as we
don't have a directory for shared internal headers for libsystemd
yet.
Let's also rename forward.h to basic-forward.h to keep things
self-explanatory.
Commit 1e9c9773b9 makes sd-boot recognize
a 'profile' option in a boot loader entry but bootctl and other
components parsing said config do not know about it.
This commit makes the option get parsed correctly and displays it too.
Commit e2a3d56218 (as part of #36314)
makes sd-boot recognize a 'uki' stanza in a boot loader entry and
uapi-group/specifications@3f2bd8236d adds
it to the BLS, but bootctl and other components parsing said config do
not know about it, leading to the error message
`Unknown line 'uki', ignoring.` when attempting to parse the same entry.
This commit makes it get parsed the same way that that 'efi' is.
The usual pattern of using colors to distinguish the mount path (/efi/)
and the rest is used. If the file cannot be read for reasons other than
-ENOENT, the error message is highlighted.
I considered a few places where to add this, but this section seems the
most reaosonable. We already print the 'token' there, which is also part of
the configuration.
Boot Loader Entry Locations:
ESP: /efi (/dev/disk/by-partuuid/31659406-5a17-46ec-8195-0dea1667db58)
config: /efi//loader/loader.conf
XBOOTLDR: /boot (/dev/disk/by-partuuid/4f8a8fe9-4b45-4070-9e9b-a681be51c902, $BOOT)
token: fedora
Both kernel-core and kernel-uki-virt call kernel-install upon removal. Need an additional argument to avoid complete removal for both traditional kernel and UKI.

So we exposed different names for the entry types in JSON than we named
our enum values. Which is very confusing. Let's unify that. Given that
the JSON fields are externally visible let's stick to that naming, even
though I think "unified" and "conf" would have been more descriptive.
This ensures we follow our usual logic that the enum identifiers and the
strings they map to use the same naming.
This helper does not translate BootEntryType to a string matching the
enum's value names, but instead returns a human readable descriptive
string. Let's make it clearer what this, by including "description" in
the name.
Add support for a sysfail boot entry. Sysfail boot entries can be
used for optional tweaking the automatic selection order in case a
failure state of the system in some form is detected (boot firmware
failure etc).
The EFI variable `LoaderEntrySysFail` holds the boot loader entry to
be used in the event of a system failure. If a failure occurs, the reason
will be stored in the `LoaderSysFailReason` EFI variable.
sysfail_check() expected to be extented to support possible
conditions when we should boot sysfail("recovery") boot entry.

The bootspec util-lib's handling of global addons didn't previously
match the behavior of sd-stub, and this commit corrects that.
First, bootspec didn't load global addons from the XBOOTLDR dir, but the
stub does. So, bootspec now enumerates addons in XBOOTLDR, not just ESP
Second, the stub only loads resources (including addons) from the
partition that it was found on. Thus, we must keep track of which
partition the global addons come from, and which partition each boot
entry comes from. In other words: global addons found on the ESP will
NOT apply to UKIs found in XBOOTLDR, and bootspec now reflects that.
This is preparation for making our Varlink API a public API. Since our
Varlink API is built on top of our JSON API we need to make that public
first (it's a nice API, but JSON APIs there are already enough, this is
purely about the Varlink angle).
I made most of the json.h APIs public, and just placed them in
sd-json.h. Sometimes I wasn't so sure however, since the underlying data
structures would have to be made public too. If in doubt I didn#t risk
it, and moved the relevant API to src/libsystemd/sd-json/json-util.h
instead (without any sd_* symbol prefixes).
This is mostly a giant search/replace patch.
Let's not complain about various valid loader.conf settings we more
recently added. At the same time let's remove the half-assed userspace
parsers for the fields we actually do support but don't actually really
care about in userspace. There's really no point in storing strings away
that we are not using at all, hence just don#t.
Fixes: #31487
An UKI final command line is not just made of the content of .cmdline,
but also from the addons that are inserted in
/boot/efi/EFI/Linux/<UKI_NAME>.efi.extra.d (local addons) and /boot/efi/loader/addons
(global addons).
Therefore bootclt "status" and "list" should also include these addons
when printing the UKI command line.
Support for /boot/efi/EFI/Linux/<UKI_NAME>.efi.extra.d is already present,
so now cover addons present in /boot/efi/loader/addons (global addons).
Example (assume UKI_NAME=devel):
$ bootctl
ukiCmdline: console=tty0 console=ttyS0
globalAddon: loader/addons/global.addon.efi
cmdline: └─quiet
localAddon: devel.efi.extra.d/rpm_addon.addon.efi
cmdline: └─this is a normal addon
finalCmdline: console=tty0 console=ttyS0 quiet this is a normal addon
An UKI final command line is not just made of the content of .cmdline,
but also from the addons that are inserted in
/boot/efi/EFI/Linux/<UKI_NAME>.efi.extra.d (local addons) and
/boot/efi/loader/addons (global addons).
Therefore bootclt "status" and "list" should also include these addons
when printing the UKI command line.
Right now, discover addons present in
/boot/efi/EFI/Linux/<UKI_NAME>.efi.extra.d.
Example output (assume UKI_NAME=devel):
$ bootctl
ukiCmdline: console=tty0 console=ttyS0
localAddon: devel.efi.extra.d/rpm_addon.addon.efi
cmdline: └─this is a normal addon
finalCmdline: console=tty0 console=ttyS0 this is a normal addon
Now that the random seed is used on virtualized systems, there's no
point in having a random-seed-mode toggle switch. Let's just always
require it now, with the existing logic already being there to allow not
having it if EFI itself has an RNG. In other words, the logic for this
can now be automatic.
The reallocation of memory and counter incrementation is moved from
the only caller to the function. This way the callers can remain oblivious
of the BootConfig internals.
We must be consistent in the two listings, so let's split out the loading code
and call it from both verb_status() and verb_list(). This effectively makes
verb_status() also call efi_loader_get_entries().
There is still some code duplicated, but that's hard to avoid. Error messages
are made identical for the same errors in various places.
Fixes#22580.
This normalizes naming of functions operating on BootConfig objects.
Let's always call them boot_config_xyz(), like our usual way to name
stuff.
moreover, move the BootConfig parameter to the beginning, as it's not a
return value (which we typically move to the end of the parameter list),
but simply an object, that even happens to be initialized already.
With these changes the functions are more like our usual way to call
things, and less surprises are good.
the function contains a loop and if expressions and whatnot. Let's
define it as regular function, to make the header easier to read and let
the compiler more freedom on whether to inline this or not.
For testing purposes I run one of my system symlinking /boot/loader/ to
/efi/loader/. This triggers annoying behaviour in boot entry
enumeration: the code ends up iterating through the 'entries' subdir of
both, thinking one was actually in the ESP and the other in XBOOTLDR,
and thus distinct. This would result in duplicate entries.
Let's address that, and filter out duplicates via their inode numbers:
never process the same inode twice. This should protect us from any
confusion effectively, regardless which inodes are symlinked (or even
bind mounted).
The code is quite different from the rest of bootspec.c, with different
deps and stuff. There's even a /***/ line to separate the two parts.
Given how large the file already is, let#s just split it into two.
No code changes, just some splitting out.
On my local system I linked up the ESP and XBOOTLDR partitions, and
ended up with duplicate entries being listed. Try hard to detect that
and only enumerate entries in the ESP if it turns out that both dirs
have the same dev_t.
This should detect both bind mounted and symlinked cases and should make
our list output less confusing.
Let's improve display of boot entries and show what type they have (i.e.
boot loader spec type 1, or type 2, or auto-discovered or reported by
boot loader), and in particular mark entries the boot loader discovered
but we can't find (i.e. that likely vanished, or possibly couldn't be
found due to a misconfiguration) and that the boot loader didn't find
but we see (which are new, or possibly also the result of
misconfiguraiton).
This is supposed to be a replacement for #22161, but instead of hiding
vanished entries, highlights them, which I think is more appropriate for
a low-level tool such bootctl.
Replaces: #22161#22398
Remove the parameter 'only_auto' from the function
boot_entries_augment_from_loader() because each caller set it always to
true.
