Currently, NOTIFY_READY from daemon-util.h conflicts with NOTIFY_READY
from NotifyState from service.h so let's rename the constants to avoid
the conflict.
meson's target has a few issues:
- Runs on all source files regardless if they're included in the
build or not
- Doesn't have any dependencies on generated sources which means we
have to do a full build first before we can run clang-tidy
- Doesn't allow us to pass any extra arguments
To work around these, let's define our own clang-tidy target instead
using llvm's run-clang-tidy script. Alongside the clang-tidy target,
let's start keeping track of all generated sources which we make the
clang-tidy target depend on. We also add a new target which will only
generate source files which is useful for setting up the source tree
for running code analysis against it.
This code seems to not be used anywhere at all, so let's drop it.

Now that the necessary functions from log.h have been moved to macro.h,
we can stop including log.h in macro.h. This requires modifying source
files all over the tree to include log.h instead.
Let's always prefer quotactl_fd() when it's available and use quotactl()
only as as a fallback on old kernels.
This way we can operate on the fds we typically already have open, or if
needed we can open a new one, and use for multiple fs operation.
In the long run we should really focus on operating exclusively by fd
instead of by path, by device nor or otherwise. This gets us a step
closer to that.
strv_skip was written to carefully return the original array, but this turns
out to be an unnecessary complication. After the previous patch, no caller
cares about the distinction between NULL and { NULL }, but various callers need
to wrap the process the returned value with strv_isempty(), sometimes more than
once. Let's always return NULL for an empty result to allow callers to be
simplified.
mangle_user_list() was doing a microoptimization of avoiding of copying of a
single string by constructing the strv object manually. This seems like more
trouble than it's worth, considering that this is called once in the program's
life.
Rework the code to have inspect_home() and authenticate_home() that handle a
single home name and call them in a loop from the outer function.
Let's return the size in a return parameter instead of the return value.
And if NULL is specified this tells us the caller doesn't care about the
size and expects a NUL terminated string. In that case look for an
embedded NUL byte, and refuse in that case.
This should lock things down a bit, as we'll systematically refuse
embedded NUL strings now when we expect strings.
Unprivileged namespaces are only allowed if the "setgroups" file is set
to "deny" for processes. And we need to write it before writing the
gidmap. Hence add a parameter for that.
Then, also patch all current users to actually enable this. The usecase
generally don't need it (because they don't care about unprivileged
userns), but it doesn't hurt to enable the concept anyway in all current
users (none of them actually runs complex userspace in them, but they
mostly use userns_acquire() for idmapped mounts and similar).
Let's anyway make this option explicit in the function call, to indicate
that the concept exists and is applied.
Admittedly, some of our glyphs _are_ special, e.g. "O=" for SPECIAL_GLYPH_TOUCH ;)
But we don't need this in the name. The very long names make some invocations
very wordy, e.g. special_glyph(SPECIAL_GLYPH_SLIGHTLY_UNHAPPY_SMILEY).
Also, I want to add GLYPH_SPACE, which is not special at all.
Now our baseline of meson is 0.62, hence install_symlink() can be used.
Note, install_symlink() implies install_emptydir() for specified
install_dir. Hence, this also drops several unnecessary
install_emptydir() calls.
Note, the function currently does not support 'relative' and 'force' flags,
so several 'ln -frsT' inline calls cannot be replaced.
Let's define a clean way how we can reestablish file watches in homed.
This is a relevant in case we overmount /home/ as a whole. It's very
useful for our testcase in particular.
When unregistering a home there's a chance this "reveals" another home
by the same name in /home/, hence immediately schedule a rescan, the
same way we already schedule it in on remove.
Also, drop the conditionalization when scheduling a rescan during
remove, for the same reasons: a remove might reveal another home, and we
cannot check for that ahead of time. Trying to check is kinda a
pointless optimization anyway, since this is not a frequent operation
and rescanning is not the end of the world.
Currently homed scans /home/ via inotify for new .home + .homedir/
popping up to register as local users. Let's also add an explicit way to
request this form of "adoption": a bus call that takes a path and that
makes a home dir activatable locally.
(Usecase: you cross boot between two systems – let's say your traditional
fedora and your ParticleOS – and want to use the same homedir from both:
simply mount the /home dir from the other somewhere, and then hit
"homectl adopt /somewhere/lennart.home" and you have the user locally
too).
Since this only covers user creation/registration for now, let's hide it
behind an env var. We might reconsider this eventually and make it a
proper switch one day, but who knows, it after all has this "debug tool"
wiff.
To resolve conflict with sys/mount.h and linux/mount.h or linux/fs.h.
The conflict between sys/mount.h and linux/mount.h is resolved in
glibc-2.37 (774058d72942249f71d74e7f2b639f77184160a6), but our baseline
is still glibc-2.31. Also, even with the version or newer, still
sys/mount.h conflicts with linux/fs.h, which is included by
linux/btrfs.h.
This introduces our own implementation of sys/mount.h, that can be
simultaneously included with linux/mount.h and linux/fs.h. This also
imports linux/fs.h, linux/mount.h, and several other dependent headers.
The introduced sys/mount.h header itself may not be enough simple, but
by using the header, we can drop most of workarounds in other source files.
let's convert the 2nd argumeng form a boolean to a proper flags
parameter. Doesn't change behaviour in anyway, but is more readable, and
prepares ground for adding more flags soon.
So far we relied that the temporary file logic would create the key
files with 0600 mode, but let's set the access mode explicitly:
1. Tighten private key file access from 0600 to 0400, after all we never
want to write it again, it's not a mutable file.
2. Relaxed public key file access mode from 0600 to 0444, after all it's
a public key file, and people should be able to see it if they want
This is useful for propagating the key onto other systems if needed.
We already return BUS_ERROR_HOME_ABSENT when we detect the image being
absent before we fork off the homework worker. Let's also return the
same error if the homework process notices the same condition while
actually doing something.
This mostly fixes a race, that the same condition seen at different
points in time results in the same errors.
