Daan De Meyer 86b9a3e31d tree-wide: Clean up includes
This removes more unused includes from the components already cleaned
up in #37467 and #37457.

Daan De Meyer 8857aa74e5 tree-wide: Clean up includes
This commit cleans up the includes for all the small tools across
the tree.

A few cases of returning EXIT_SUCCESS are replaced with returning
0 to avoid including <stdlib.h>.

Split out of #37344.

Daan De Meyer 93a1f7921a basic: Stop including log.h in macro.h
Now that the necessary functions from log.h have been moved to macro.h,
we can stop including log.h in macro.h. This requires modifying source
files all over the tree to include log.h instead.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek ace814f0a8 update-done: create /etc and /var if they didn't exist
Previously, we would fail. But this doesn't seem useful: we may want to
mark the update as done even if /etc/ or /var/ no updates were necessary
and there was no need to create /etc/ or /var/ yet.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 2ff40c758e update-done: add --root= arg
The idea is to use this when building an image to mark the image as not
needing updates after the reboot. In general it is impossible to say if
any of the early boot update services can be safely skipped, except when
the creator of the image knows all the contents there and has made sure
that all the updates have been processed. (This is in fact what happens
in a typical package-based installation: the packages have scriptlets which
implement the changes during or after the installation process.)

With this patch, the image build process can do 'systemd-update-done --root=…'
at the appropriate point to avoid triggering of ldconfig.service,
systemd-hwdb-update.service, etc.

I didn't write --image=, because it doesn't seem immediately useful. The
approach with --root is most useful when we're building the image "offline",
which means that we have a directory we're working on.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 04db1a6aec update-done: adjust comments
The man page was right, but the comment in the generated file was wrong. The
timestamp is *not* the timestamp when the update is being done. While at it,
say to what directory the message applies. This makes it easier for a casual
reader to figure out what is happening.

Also rename the function to better reflect what it does.

Inspired by https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/36045.

Lennart Poettering 8eeb870971 fileio: port write_string_file() to LabelOps, and thus add WRITE_STRING_FILE_LABEL flag
Given that we have the LabelOps abstraction these days, we can teach
write_string_file() to use it, which means we can get rid of
fileio-label.[ch] as a separate concept.

(The only reason that fileio-label.[ch] exists independently of
fileio.[ch] was that the former linekd to libselinux potentially, and
thus had to be in src/shared/ while the other always was in src/basic/.
But the LabelOps vtable provides us with a nice work-around)

Lennart Poettering 8a0adc973a fileio: clean up write_string_file() naming
let's rename the "_ts" flavour of these calls "_full" instead, exposing
the full functionality. And then keep two more minimal versions around:
one "_at" (which has the ts parameter suppressed, but keeps the dir_fd
one). And one without suffix (which supresses both).

Do the same for the label versions of these calls.

Daan De Meyer a452c807a4 label: Introduce LabelOps to do pre/post labelling operations
By default, label_ops is initialized with a NULL pointer which translates
to noop labelling operations. In mac_selinux_init() and the new mac_smack_init(),
we initialize label_ops with a MAC specific LabelOps pointer.

We also introduce mac_init() to initialize any configured MACs and replace all
usages of mac_selinux_init() with mac_init().

With the switch from log_debug() to log_debug_errno() in commit c413bb28df

silently ignore these directories again.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek c413bb28df tree-wide: correct cases where return log_{error,warning} is used without value
In various cases, we would say 'return log_warning()' or 'return log_error()'. Those
functions return 0 if no error is passed in. For log_warning or log_error this doesn't
make sense, and we generally want to propagate the error. In the few cases where
the error should be ignored, I think it's better to split it in two, and call 'return 0'
on a separate line.

Lennart Poettering 0c69794138 tree-wide: remove Lennart's copyright lines
These lines are generally out-of-date, incomplete and unnecessary. With
SPDX and git repository much more accurate and fine grained information
about licensing and authorship is available, hence let's drop the
per-file copyright notice. Of course, removing copyright lines of others
is problematic, hence this commit only removes my own lines and leaves
all others untouched. It might be nicer if sooner or later those could
go away too, making git the only and accurate source of authorship
information.

Lennart Poettering 818bf54632 tree-wide: drop 'This file is part of systemd' blurb
This part of the copyright blurb stems from the GPL use recommendations:

https://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-howto.en.html

The concept appears to originate in times where version control was per
file, instead of per tree, and was a way to glue the files together.
Ultimately, we nowadays don't live in that world anymore, and this
information is entirely useless anyway, as people are very welcome to
copy these files into any projects they like, and they shouldn't have to
change bits that are part of our copyright header for that.

hence, let's just get rid of this old cruft, and shorten our codebase a
bit.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 11a1589223 tree-wide: drop license boilerplate
Files which are installed as-is (any .service and other unit files, .conf
files, .policy files, etc), are left as is. My assumption is that SPDX
identifiers are not yet that well known, so it's better to retain the
extended header to avoid any doubt.

I also kept any copyright lines. We can probably remove them, but it'd nice to
obtain explicit acks from all involved authors before doing that.

Lennart Poettering ec2ebfd524 update-done: minor clean-ups
This is a follow-up for fb8b0869a7, and makes a
couple of minor clean-up changes:

- The field name in the timestamp file is changed from "TimestampNSec=" to
"TIMESTAMP_NSEC=". This is done simply to reflect the fact that we parse the
file with the env var file parser, and hence the contents should better
follow the usual capitalization of env vars, i.e. be all uppercase.

- Needless negation of the errno parameter log_error_errno() and friends has
  been removed.

- Instead of manually calculating the nsec remainder of the timestamp, use
  timespec_store().

- We now check whether we were able to write the timestamp file in full with
fflush_and_check() the way we usually do it.

Lennart Poettering 8ea48dfcd3 update-done: add minimal tool to manage system updates for /etc and /var, if /usr has changed
In order to support offline updates to /usr, we need to be able to run
certain tasks on next boot-up to bring /etc and /var in line with the
updated /usr. Hence, let's devise a mechanism how we can detect whether
/etc or /var are not up-to-date with /usr anymore: we keep "touch
files" in /etc/.updated and /var/.updated that are mtime-compared with
/usr. This means:

Whenever the vendor OS tree in /usr is updated, and any services that
shall be executed at next boot shall be triggered, it is sufficient to
update the mtime of /usr itself. At next boot, if /etc/.updated and/or
/var/.updated is older than than /usr (or missing), we know we have to
run the update tools once. After that is completed we need to update the
mtime of these files to the one of /usr, to keep track that we made the
necessary updates, and won't repeat them on next reboot.

A subsequent commit adds a new ConditionNeedsUpdate= condition that
allows checking on boot whether /etc or /var are outdated and need
updating.

This is an early step to allow booting up with an empty /etc, with
automatic rebuilding of the necessary cache files or user databases
therein, as well as supporting later updates of /usr that then propagate
to /etc and /var again.
