These were introduced as part of the effort of sd-executor
worker pool (#29566), which never landed due to unsignificant
performance improvement. Let's just remove the unused
helpers. If that work ever gets resurrected they can be
restored from this commit pretty easily.
To make sure everything still compiles, we add a preliminary include
of forward.h to tests.h to make sure it is included in every test source
file. We'll clean up the tests.h includes in a later commit.
We also add a <errno.h> include to errno-list.h to keep test-errno-list.c
compiling. It'll be removed again when we clean up includes in src/basic.
Split out of #37344.
Unprivileged users often make themselves root by unsharing a user namespace
and then mapping their current user to root which does not require privileges.
Let's make sure our tests don't fail in such an environment by adding checks
where required to see if we're not running in a user namespace with only a
single user.
read() returns ssize_t (i.e. 64bit typically). We assigned it to int
variables in some cases (i.e. 32bit typically). Let's not be so sloppy,
and not accidentally drop 32bit on the floor.
(of course, this is not an issue IRL since we'll not have allocations
above 2^32 ever we could read into, but still, let's clean this up)
Also, make sure the NUL byte iovec becomes an exported constant too.
This is better than the previous situation where this was a macro
resolving to a compount expression, since the lifetime of the expression
is limited to its invoking scope. By turning this into a proper variable
the lifetime becomes unbounded, which makes it easier to use in various
scenarios, such as "if" blocks.
Sometimes it makes sense to hard kill a client if we die. Let's hence
add a third FORK_DEATHSIG flag for this purpose: FORK_DEATHSIG_SIGKILL.
To make things less confusing this also renames FORK_DEATHSIG to
FORK_DEATHSIG_SIGTERM to make clear it sends SIGTERM. We already had
FORK_DEATHSIG_SIGINT, hence this makes things nicely symmetric.
A bunch of users are switched over for FORK_DEATHSIG_SIGKILL where we
know it's safe to abort things abruptly. This should make some kernel
cases more robust, since we cannot get confused by signal masks or such.
While we are at it, also fix a bunch of bugs where we didn't take
FORK_DEATHSIG_SIGINT into account in safe_fork()
We use it for more than just pipe() arrays. For example also for
socketpair(). Hence let's give it a generic name.
Also add EBADF_TRIPLET to mirror this for things like
stdin/stdout/stderr arrays, which we use a bunch of times.
This is preparation for #28891, which adds a bunch more helpers around
"struct iovec", at which point this really deserves its own .c/.h file.
The idea is that we sooner or later can consider "struct iovec" as an
entirely generic mechanism to reference some binary blob, and is the
go-to type for this purpose whenever we need one.
This is a rework of #24764 by Cristian Rodríguez
<crodriguez@owncloud.com>, which stalled.
Instead of assigning -1 we'll use a macro defined to INT_MAX however.
-1 was used everywhere, but -EBADF or -EBADFD started being used in various
places. Let's make things consistent in the new style.
Note that there are two candidates:
EBADF 9 Bad file descriptor
EBADFD 77 File descriptor in bad state
Since we're initializating the fd, we're just assigning a value that means
"no fd yet", so it's just a bad file descriptor, and the first errno fits
better. If instead we had a valid file descriptor that became invalid because
of some operation or state change, the other errno would fit better.
In some places, initialization is dropped if unnecessary.
This way we can implement nice fallbacks later on.
While we are at it, provide a test for this (one that is a bit over the
top, but then again, we can never have enough tests).
This converts to TEST macro where it is trivial.
Some additional notable changes:
- simplify HAVE_LIBIDN #ifdef in test-dns-domain.c
- use saved_argc/saved_argv in test-copy.c, test-path-util.c,
test-tmpfiles.c and test-unit-file.c
In subsequent commits, calls to if_nametoindex() will be replaced by a wrapper
that falls back to alternative name resolution over netlink. netlink support
requires libsystemd (for sd-netlink), and we don't want to add any functions
that require netlink in basic/. So stuff that calls if_nametoindex() for user
supplied interface names, and everything that depends on that, needs to be
moved.
.sun_path has 108 bytes, and we'd write a string of 108 bytes + NUL.
I added this test, but I don't know what it was supposed to test. Let's
just remove.
Fixes#13713. CID#1405854.
This splits out a bunch of functions from fileio.c that have to do with
temporary files. Simply to make the header files a bit shorter, and to
group things more nicely.
No code changes, just some rearranging of source files.
We are pretty careful to reject abstract sockets that are too long to fit in
the address structure as a NUL-terminated string. And since we parse sockets as
strings, it is not possible to embed a NUL in the the address either. But we
might receive an external socket (abstract or not), and we want to be able to
print its address in all cases. We would call socket_address_verify() and
refuse to print various sockets that the kernel considers legit.
Let's do the strict verification only in case of socket addresses we parse and
open ourselves, and do less strict verification when printing addresses of
existing sockets, and use c-escaping to print embedded NULs and such.
More tests are added.
This should make LGTM happier because on FIXME comment is removed.
Test it when sending an FD without any contents, or an FD and some contents,
or only contents and no FD (using a bare send().)
Also fix the previous test which forked but was missing an _exit() at the
end of the child execution code.
