Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek e47fb4abd2 Rename STRV_MAKE_EMPTY to just STRV_EMPTY
Even though this creates a stack allocation, it is not a function macro, so
drop the "make" from the name.

Daan De Meyer fa34123c35 test: Clean up includes
To make sure everything still compiles, we add a preliminary include
of forward.h to tests.h to make sure it is included in every test source
file. We'll clean up the tests.h includes in a later commit.

We also add a <errno.h> include to errno-list.h to keep test-errno-list.c
compiling. It'll be removed again when we clean up includes in src/basic.

Split out of #37344.

Daan De Meyer 38c9ca5380 tree-wide: Remove strv_from_stdarg_alloca()
It's trivial to replace all uses of this function with STRV_MAKE()
and strv_new_ap() so let's get rid of this variant.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 55a8d118d6 basic/strv: return NULL from strv_skip
strv_skip was written to carefully return the original array, but this turns
out to be an unnecessary complication. After the previous patch, no caller
cares about the distinction between NULL and { NULL }, but various callers need
to wrap the process the returned value with strv_isempty(), sometimes more than
once. Let's always return NULL for an empty result to allow callers to be
simplified.

Yu Watanabe 3dc546ad75 strv: introduce strv_sort_uniq()
We often call strv_sort() and strv_uniq(). If a strv is already sorted.
uniquifying can be faster.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 3ec3ae68d2 basic/strv: add optimizable version of strv_push/consume/extend
This will be helpful in cases where we are repeatedly adding entries
to a long strv and want to skip the iteration over old entries leading
to quadratic behaviour.

Note that we don't want to calculate the length if not necessary, so
the calculation is delayed until after we've checked that value is not
NULL.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek b38a9d2d77 basic/strv: fix splitting of strings with escape characters
Plain strv_split() should not care if the strings contains backslashes
or quote characters. But extract_first_word() interprets backslashes
unless EXTRACT_RETAIN_ESCAPE is given.

I wonder how it's possible that nobody noticed this before. I think this
code was introduced in 0645b83a40.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 5980d46304 strv: declare iterator of FOREACH_STRING() in the loop
Same idea as 03677889f0.

No functional change intended. The type of the iterator is generally changed to
be 'const char*' instead of 'char*'. Despite the type commonly used, modifying
the string was not allowed.

I adjusted the naming of some short variables for clarity and reduced the scope
of some variable declarations in code that was being touched anyway.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 9b01798b98 basic/strv: avoid potential UB with references to array[-1]
"""
Given an array a[N] of N elements of type T:
- Forming a pointer &a[i] (or a + i) with 0 ≤ i ≤ N is safe.
- Forming a pointer &a[i] with i < 0 or i > N causes undefined behavior.
- Dereferencing a pointer &a[i] with 0 ≤ i < N is safe.
- Dereferencing a pointer &a[i] with i < 0 or i ≥ N causes undefined behavior.
"""

As pointed by by @medhefgo, here we were forming a pointer to a[-1]. a itself
wasn't NULL, so a > 0, and a-1 was also >= 0, and this didn't seem to cause any
problems. But it's better to be formally correct, especially if we move the
code to src/fundamental/ later on and compile it differently.

Compilation shows no size change (with -O0 -g) on build/systemd, so this should
have no effect whatsoever.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 1ba193d73e basic/strv: drop strv_free_free
I think the function name is confusing: we generally say "free_free" when
both keys and values are freed in a hash map, but here the type is an
array of strvs, so the name should be something like strv_array_free.

The function is unused since 143fadf369 (2018),
let's just drop it.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 04499a70fb Drop the text argument from assert_not_reached()
In general we almost never hit those asserts in production code, so users see
them very rarely, if ever. But either way, we just need something that users
can pass to the developers.

We have quite a few of those asserts, and some have fairly nice messages, but
many are like "WTF?" or "???" or "unexpected something". The error that is
printed includes the file location, and function name. In almost all functions
there's at most one assert, so the function name alone is enough to identify
the failure for a developer. So we don't get much extra from the message, and
we might just as well drop them.

Dropping them makes our code a tiny bit smaller, and most importantly, improves
development experience by making it easy to insert such an assert in the code
without thinking how to phrase the argument.

Lennart Poettering 2824aa0796 specifiers: introduce common macros for generating specifier tables
In many cases the tables are largely the same, hence define a common set
of macros to generate the common parts.

This adds in a couple of missing specifiers here and there, so is more
thant just refactoring: it actually fixes accidental omissions.

Note that some entries that look like they could be unified under these
macros can't really be unified, since they are slightly different. For
example in the DNSSD service logic we want to use the DNSSD hostname for
%H rather than the unmodified kernel one.

Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek 0645b83a40 tree-wide: replace strv_split_full() with strv_split_extract() everywhere
Behaviour is not identical, as shown by the tests in test-strv.
The combination of EXTRACT_UNQUOTE without EXTRACT_RELAX only appears in
the test, so it doesn't seem particularly important. OTOH, the difference
in handling of squished parameters could make a difference. New behaviour
is what both bash and python do, so I think we can ignore this corner case.

This change has the following advantages:
- the duplication of code paths that do a very similar thing is removed
- extract_one_word() / strv_split_extract() return a proper error code.

Given a string in the format 'one:two three four:five', returns a string

present, an empty string is returned in its place, so that the vector
can be processed in pairs.
